Finding Your Compass
Feb 08, 2023
When we set out on a journey, whether it's in business or in life, it's important to have a clear destination in mind. Without a destination, it's easy to get lost or sidetracked. The same is true when it comes to navigating the challenges of life. Without a clear sense of purpose, it can be difficult to push forward when the going gets tough.
Think of it like a ship setting sail on the open sea. Without a compass, the ship will be at the mercy of the winds and the waves, tossed to and fro without direction. But with a compass, the ship can chart a course and reach its destination. In the Earn Phase of the dip model I often refer to, where clarity is high but chemistry is low, having a clear sense of purpose can guide you through the difficult times, it gives you the "why power" to tap into when the seas are rough and you can't muster the desire on your own.
Sticking to the sailing theme, your purpose is like that compass, guiding you through the challenges of life. It gives you direction and helps you stay focused on what's truly important. When the winds of change are howling and the waves are crashing, your purpose will keep you on course and help you push forward.
But how do you find your purpose? It's not always easy, and it may take some time and introspection. One way to start is by asking yourself what truly matters to you. What makes you feel alive? What are you passionate about? What do you want to be remembered for? These are all important questions that can help you begin to identify your purpose. These are just the tip of the surface of how I help people through this process.
Once you've identified your purpose, it's important to articulate it. Putting your purpose into words makes it more tangible and helps you stay focused on it. It also makes it easier to share with others and to communicate your goals and aspirations. It becomes your mantra!
In the Earn Phase, it's easy to lose sight of our purpose and give up. But having a clear sense of purpose can help you push through the difficulties and stay focused on what's truly important. Back to the sailing metaphor, think of it like a lighthouse beacon, illuminating the way for ships in the dark. When you can clearly articulate your purpose, it shines a light on your path and helps you stay on course.
Finding and articulating your purpose is a powerful tool for navigating the challenges of life. It gives you direction and helps you stay focused on what's truly important. And when the going gets tough, your purpose will help you push forward and reach your destination.
